Announcement/Christmas Thought

As you’ve noticed I haven’t posted for awhile. I should have made an announcement sooner. I’m in the thick of basketball season so I don’t have as much time. I also haven’t been motivated.

Anyways, I’m going to post once a week for now. It probably won’t be an article every time. Sometimes it’ll be a verse of the week type thing.

Christmas! I’m not a big fan of it. I don’t dislike it but it’s not a big deal to me. Our family doesn’t do presents. I know, big shocker, right?

Even though I’m not big on Christmas it’s still a special time of year. That’s because of the gift God gave us. When Jesus was born God gave us a savior. We all need saving.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. ~ Romans 3:23

We’re all deserving to die, but on that night long ago God gave us life.

Remember God’s perfect gift this Christmas season.

Song of the Week 11/28/17

I apologize for being a day late again. I need to work on it. Today I have a song for you. It is:

Background by Lecrae

Background talks about letting God take the lead in our lives.

I could play the background
‘Cause I know sometimes I get in the way
So won’t You take the lead, lead, lead? ~ Background by Lecrae

Why gain the world if we’re going to lose our souls?

I don’t need my name in lights, I don’t need a starring role
Why gain the whole wide world, If I’m just going lose my soul? ~ Background by Lecrae

Hope you enjoyed that! Let me know in the comments if you want more “songs of the week.”

Have an amazing week!

Gratefulness (three thoughts)

Note: This post is taking the place of my normal Saturday post.

Today is the day when people all over the United States celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. Abraham Lincoln established the holiday in 1863 and it’s been celebrated ever since. This is a day to thank God for the blessings he’s given us.

I have three quick thoughts on being grateful:

  1.  We always have something to be grateful for

Life often seems and is bleak. In this fallen world we have struggles. But regardless of what we’re going through we can thank God for something. Maybe it’s something simple like food to eat of a roof over our heads. Or maybe it’s something deeper like God showing himself to us.

I don’t know what your situation is this Thanksgiving but try thanking God for something.

2.  Let’s meditate on God’s gift

God gave us the best gift possible. Salvation. When God sent his son to die for us he gave us the hope of heaven.

Let’s meditate on this gift and thank God for it!

3. Gratefulness is a choice

Sometimes we don’t feel grateful. The good news is, that’s okay. Gratefulness often isn’t a feeling but a choice. Everyday we can either chose to be grumpy or grateful. God wants us to choose the path of gratitude.

Being grateful isn’t just something to do on Thanksgiving, it’s something we need to practice daily. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a super thankful person.

I need to work on gratitude. Do you?

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

~ 1 Thessalonians 5: 18

Doing Hard Things

A few days ago I sat in the locker room before my first basketball scrimmage. I was a ball of nerves (no pun intended XD). I decided to look up some of my highlighted Bible verses in an attempt to ease my mind. The first one I saw was this:

Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? ~Jeremiah 32:27

This verse what’s a reminder that nothing is too hard for God. It encouraged me as I went and did something that was hard for me.

This is my first year on the basketball team and its been hard. I struggle with a lot of anxiety so that doesn’t help. Doing hard things is hard but also rewarding.

God wants us to do hard things

God doesn’t want us to live in our comfort zones. No, he wants us to step out, live risky, and let him show himself to us. We weren’t meant for the simple life or to just survive, we were made to thrive.

It’s time for us to more than just survive

We were made to thrive  ~ Thrive by Casting Crowns

It takes trust to step out of our comfort zones. But God is worthy of that trust. He’ll never leave or forsake us.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. ~ Joshua 1:9

Is there anything in your life that God is calling you to step out and do? I doesn’t have to be something big!

Let’s thrive today!
Note: Brett and Alex Harris wrote a book entitled Do Hard Things. That’s kind of where the idea for this article came from. If you haven’t read it you should. It’s great!

2 Songs I’m Enjoying

I don’t have a regular post for you today because it’s been a busy and stressful week. Let’s get to it!

  1. Changed by Sanctus Real

This song talks about how God’s changing and perfecting us!

I’m gonna be changed. A little each day. Even when I fall I’ll trust you when you say “I’m gonna be changed.” ~ Changed by Sanctus Real

You can find Changed here.

2.  Background by Lecrae

Background is a slow rap about putting God first. God deserves to be first in all of our lives. This song’s a great reminder of that!

I could play the background
‘Cause I know sometimes I get in the way
So won’t You take the lead, lead, lead?

Have a great weekend friends!

Quote of the Week

15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,
16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
 ~ Ephesians 15-16
Friends, let’s think about how we’re living. Is it in a Godly manor or not?
Have a great week!

God is Our Creator

Designed, crafted, perfected by a holy God. He created us, mankind, from dust. From dust we have come and to dust we will go (Ecclesiastes 3:20).

Example – Creation

Well, this is the obvious example. In six days God created everything. From water and land to animals and people.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)

All of his creation was very good. God doesn’t create anything that is imperfect. We hurt and have problems because of sin. We are his work of art, crafted lovingly by God. We are precious in his sight even if not in our own.

For you  formed my inward parts;
you  knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:13-14)

Sometimes I see myself as imperfect. I beat up on myself when I make mistakes. This isn’t  what God wants. He wants us to rest in who we are.

Next time I make a mistake or am discouraged I need to remember that I’m perfect in God’s eyes.

Today remember that you were crafted by God and are perfect just the way you are!
